1. What are the various sources of books available in campus?
Hard and soft copies from library, e-books from profs and seniors, hard copies from seniors or department library.
Head over to study material section for some ebooks and study material collected by MEA.
2. Is there a branch change option?
No, there is no option to change branches in NITT
3. Library timings
Mon -Fri - 9 am -9 pm
Sat & Sun 9 am - 5 pm
Closed on all public holidays.
4. How is gpa and cgpa calculated?
GPA = ∑ (course credits*grade)/∑(course credits)
CGPA= ∑(GPA*credits in a semester)/(total credits of all semesters)
5. Is it compulsory to do a project in the 4 years?
For students admitted in 2019 or after it’s not compulsory to do a project to get a degree. You have the option of doing a project or taking up 2 additional courses of 3 credits each instead of the project .
6. What is a safe cgpa to maintain for a mechanical engineer?
A cgpa above 8 is safe. It is better to maintain a cgpa above 8.5. For highers and research, you might need a cgpa higher than 9.
7. Any courses or softwares to learn which will be useful in future?
There is no particular software or courses that can be said to be useful in the long run. It all depends on your interest and the line of work/ research.
As far as mechanical is concerned -
Design and simulation - Solidworks, Fusion 360, NX-CAD.
Fluid flow - Ansys,Fluent
IC engines - Ansys ICE, Ansys Forte
These are just some of the commonly used softwares. It’ll differ from place to place and also according to personal convenience
8. How is minor useful in the long run?
Minors are useful to people who are interested in fields like management, software or any other apart from core. Also, for highers, it is recommended to have a minor.
9. Which elective subjects are more suitable to be taken with mechanical?
Being a mechanical engineer, you can go into multiple domains, here we have added some examples.
10. How important is cgpa over other skills you learn in college?
A balance of skills(both soft and technical ) and CGPA is required.
11. How to choose courses from NPTEL?
The students should submit the list of courses they wish to take up to their respective CRs and the list will be sent to HOD. The allowed courses will be sent through CRs and the students can take it up. The credits for the courses depending on the week is : 12 weeks -3 credits and 8 week :2 credits and 4 week -1 credit
12. What is the procedure to get the consent from our college to go for an offline intern?
You need a bonafide certificate and the internship request letter has to be has to be signed by our HOD.
13. Is minor added in total credits and affects the cgpa?
For students admitted on or after 2019 ,regulation states that the credits for minor courses are not taken in consideration for CGPA calculation. They are taken purely on the students' interest.
14. How to drop courses?
A window for de-registration will be provided after the course registration is over within the students can drop a course if he wishes.
15. What is the maximum number of courses one can take in a sem?
9 subjects
(7 theory + 2 lab courses)
16. How to access labs for study/project purposes?
Department labs - Permission from faculty in-charge for the lab , professor taking the particular lab course , lab in-charge.

17. How to get the student version of Autodesk softwares ? What are the documents required?
Follow these steps to download AutoCAD student version

18. How to access premium for grammarly account?
Head over to https://www.grammarly.com/edu and sign up using webmail. Once you activate the account, you can use the premium version.

4. How to change hostels?
To change hostels, one has to talk to the hostel office and respective hostel in-charge. If there is a vacancy, it might be approved.
5. What facilities does the shopping complex provide?
Bank, Post-office., barber shop, laundry services , juice stall, bakery , stationary shop, departmental store , xerox shop, food-court,photo studio, electronics sales and service, fruits and vegetables shop, tailor shop.
